Sir Richard Cholmondeley (c. 1460–1521) was Lieutenant of the Tower of London from 1513 to 1520. He is buried in the Tower, and the spelling of his name as used by Gilbert (Cholmondeley) was taken from a Victorian panel on his tomb. But apparently this is a mistake; although other branches of the family use this spelling, Sir Richard and his branch spell it Chomeley.
Chomeley was knighted in 1497 "for valour against the Scots".
